A unique tradition is organised on Narak Chaudas at Muktidham situated on the banks of the Son river in Bargawan Amalai Municipal Council of Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh. On this day, the atmosphere of the crematorium comes alive with the light of lamps, rangoli and the sparkle of firecrackers. This scene not only reflects the joy of Diwali, but also expresses a special reverence. Generally, on hearing the name of the crematorium, a seriousness comes in the mind, but the evening of Narak Chaudas at Muktidham of Bargawan Amalai brings a different experience. This tradition was started by the local citizens in the year 2015. They believe that through this special event, they express respect and reverence towards their ancestors and on the occasion of Diwali, they also consider them a part of this celebration. On the evening of Roop Chaudas, the cremation ground here is decorated with lamps, which turns it into a supernatural scene. During this, hundreds of lamps are lit, and rangoli is made. The sparkle of fireworks turns it into a festive atmosphere. According to this tradition, lighting lamps and fireworks is a symbol of reverence towards ancestors for the people here. Now this event has become the identity of this place, and every year people perform this unique tradition in the memory of their ancestors on this occasion. In this way, this festival celebrated at Bargawan Amalai Muktidham has become a symbol of balance between life, death and rituals, where a wonderful confluence of reverence and joy is seen.
