Shajapur. Due to the sun rays falling vertically on the equator, the duration of day and night on 22nd and 23rd September is equal i.e. 12 hours each. In astronomy, it is called Sharad Sampad. On Monday, this astronomical event was explained to the students in Higher Secondary School Jyoti Nagar by making a chart on the floor through a globe. District Astronomy and Planetarium Incharge Ashok Sharma said that the earth revolves around the sun. In the month of June, the sun rays fall directly on the Tropic of Cancer, due to which the days are longer and nights are shorter in India. Whereas in September, due to the sun rays falling vertically on the equator, the duration of day and night is equal. In the month of December, the days are shorter and nights are longer and in March again, due to the sun rays falling vertically on the equator, the duration of day and night becomes equal. Sharma said that this process is caused due to the earth being tilted on its axis as well as rotating on the axis and revolving around the sun. The students understood the astronomical phenomenon with enthusiasm.
