Indore. A pharmacist posted at Indore's MY Hospital has been accused of amassing assets disproportionate to his income. A preliminary investigation by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) revealed that the officer possessed assets not just 108 percent, but 108 times more than his declared income. The investigation revealed assets including several plots, bank documents, and cash.

Action taken after complaint of irregularities in drug procurement

The EOW received a complaint alleging illegal assets were being acquired through widespread irregularities in the drug procurement process at MY Hospital. Based on the complaint, an investigation was initiated and searches were conducted at the residence of the concerned officer and other locations.

Property-related documents recovered from the pharmacist's home

The investigating agency raided the home of Rakesh Gorkhe, a pharmacist posted at MY Hospital, resident of Scheme No. 140, Vrindavan Colony. During the preliminary investigation, documents related to six properties, bank passbooks, and cash worth ₹1.51 lakh were recovered. Other financial documents are also being examined.

Large Disparity Between Income and Assets

According to the EOW, Rakesh Gorkhe began government service in 2007. Based on the records available during the investigation, his total legitimate income has been estimated to be approximately ₹1.11 crore, while the value of his assets and investments was found to be more than ₹2.13 crore. The agency claims that the preliminary assessment indicates that his assets are 108 times more than his income, and a detailed financial investigation is underway.

Salary Increases and Foreign Travel Also Under Scrutiny

The investigation revealed that Rakesh Gorkhe's monthly salary was approximately ₹18,700 in 2015, which increased to ₹54,600 by 2025. The EOW is also investigating how he acquired assets beyond his known sources of income. According to officials, information about his recent trip to Thailand has also been included in the scope of the investigation.

Wife also a government employee

The investigation also revealed that Rakesh Gorkhe's wife, Kirti Gorkhe, has been working as a librarian at a government dental clinic since 2010. Her current monthly salary is reported to be approximately ₹42,400. The investigating agency is reviewing documents related to both Gorkhe's income, investments, and assets.

In-depth Document Investigation Underway

The EOW says that a detailed examination of all seized documents and financial records is underway. Only after the investigation is complete will it be clear whether any financial irregularities or corruption occurred in the acquisition of the property. If the allegations are confirmed, further action will be taken against the concerned officials under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
