Kolkata. Due to the roaring batting of young batsman Abhishek Sharma, England had to face defeat by 7 wickets in the first match of the 5 T20I match series. Sharma completed his fifty in just 20 balls while chasing the target of 133 runs given by England. After this, he was in no mood to stop and was seen thrashing the English team's bowlers in the way he wanted. He scored 79 runs in his 34-ball innings, which included 8 sixes and 5 fours. With his rapid batting, he tore apart the bowling of England. India is now ahead 1-0 in this series. The second match of the series will be played in Chennai on Saturday.

Before Sharma, his opening partner Sanju Samson played a short but attractive innings of 26 runs. Sanju scored 22 of these 26 runs from a single over of Gus Atkinson. Sanju was out in the 5th over, while in the same over of Jofra Archer, captain Suryakumar Yadav (0) was also out without opening the account.

But this did not affect Abhishek at the other end. He continued to score runs continuously from one end. When he was out in the 12th over of the innings, India was just 8 runs away from victory. In the end, Tilak Verma (19*) along with Hardik Pandya (3*) completed the rest of the work.

Earlier, India won the toss today and decided to field first. Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh proved his decision right in the very first over and got the wicket of Phil Salt (0). In his next over, Arshdeep also dismissed Ben Duckit (4). England's team was able to add only 46 runs in the powerplay.

The English batsmen had no answer to Varun Chakravarthy in the middle overs. Varun took 3 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs. His account included the wickets of Harry Brook (17), Liam Livingstone (0) and Jos Buttler (68). Apart from Arshdeep (2/17), Hardik Pandya (2/42) and Akshar Patel (22/2) took two wickets each.
