Zimbabwe hunts down Pakistan
Defeated by 80 runs in the first ODI
Pakistan, which went on a tour to Zimbabwe after Australia, has suffered an upset in the very first ODI match. In the rain-affected match, it lost by 80 runs under the DLS rule. Now it is trailing 0-1 in the 3-match series. This is Pakistan's first ODI defeat under the captaincy of Pakistan's new captain Mohammad Rizwan. In this rain-affected match played at the Queen Sports Club ground, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Zimbabwe team scored 205 runs after losing all 10 wickets in 40.2 overs.
Richard Ngarava, the number 9 batsman for Zimbabwe, scored the highest 48 runs to take the team to this respectable score. Earlier, the host team had lost 7 wickets till reaching just 125 runs. After this, Sikandar Raja (39) shared a 62-run partnership with Garawa for the 8th wicket.
Apart from these two, wicketkeeper Tadivansh Marumani (29) and Sean Williams (23) also played useful innings. Apart from 39 runs, Sikandar also took 2 wickets for just 7 runs in 3 overs bowling and was also selected as the Player of the Match for this brilliant performance.
Pakistan's team kept getting stuck in this easy looking target. They were struggling even before the rain became a hindrance in the match and they lost their 6 top wickets till they put only 60 runs on the scoreboard in 21 overs. Blessing Muzarabani gave two big blows to Pakistan by dismissing opening batsmen Abdullah Shafiq (1) and Sam Ayub (11) in the early overs.
After this, Kamran Ghulam (17) and Mohammad Rizwan (19*) took the innings forward with patience. Both the batsmen did not let the team suffer a third blow for more than 7 overs. But in the 13th over itself, Sean Williams gave Pakistan a third blow by dismissing Ghulam at the hands of wicketkeeper Marumani. There were only 40 runs on the scoreboard.
